The Pursuit of Happyness is touching from start to finish, piling on the emotion scene after scene leading up to this moment. This scene, like the earlier one from The Shawshank Redemption is inspirational in that it shows us that if you work hard enough good things CAN happen, that while this world can put you down there is always a way out if you have the drive to get there. This scene has the edge over Shawshank for me as it's just so much more real and raw, there is so much heart in this scene and Will Smiths understated performance especially that is just so powerful, so telling. The fact that this is based on a true story adds to its inspirational message, Shawshank is a great metaphor, but Pursuit perfectly reflects the hardship so many face in modern society.
