8. Merida Falls Into The Throne Room - Brave
Brave is a far cry from Pixar’s best work, but there are still some great moments in this movie. After following the wisps to the ruins of the Ancient Kingdom, Merida takes an unexpected tumble and falls into an abandoned throne room.
As our red-haired heroine explores this dark, eerie remnant of the Ancient Kingdom, she pieces the truth together and realises the prince from the old stories is in fact Mor'du, a vicious and powerful bear who’s feared throughout the Scottish Highlands.
The giant form of Mor'du then emerges from the shadows and attacks Merida. Though the pointed teeth and sharp claws are certainly frightening, the sound effects are the scariest part of this scene – Mor'du sounds more like a lion than a bear as he hunts down the young princess.
To make matters worse, Merida’s arrows are completely useless, forcing her to scramble up to the surface before hitching a ride with her mother and fleeing the ruins of the Ancient Kingdom.
Merida is normally cool, calm, and collected in the face of adversity, but in this case, her desperation is more than warranted.
