Lynne Ramsay might not direct many films, but you can be sure that when she does it's going to make a serious impression. It's safe to say that her 2011 adaptation of Lionel Shriver's novel, We Need To Talk About Kevin, managed to do exactly that.

Presented to the audience in non-chronological order, the film follows Tilda Swinton's character as she has to deal with her son's slow, yet disturbing journey into becoming a teenage mass murderer. The cast of Swinton, Ezra Miller and John C.Reilly all have fantastic performances, especially Swinton who really shows the range of her acting skills.

Although the movie touches on a very dark subject matter, the fact that situations like this still happens in schools across the US makes this film even more poignant than it was when it was first released. We Need To Talk About Kevin is a difficult watch and will make audiences feel uncomfortable throughout. However, that's what it's supposed to do and it does so successfully.
