10 Most Intriguing Short Films Of 2015 (So Far)

1. Kung Fury

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bS5P_LAqiVg Any other year, Romance In NYC would have top of our list: but this is the year of Kung Fury. If you€™re not one of the nearly 17 million hits on the YouTube upload of David Sandberg€™s incredible, over-the-top, hilariously kinetic short film, then you€™re doing life wrong. Put together on the back of $630,000 raised via a Kickstarter campaign, the film is essentially a love song to all eighties straight-to-video action movies, played with tongue so firmly in cheek that it looks like mumps. Sandberg plays the titular cop, a man who was struck by lightning and bitten by a cobra to gain the kung fu powers of The Chosen One. Guest-starring next to this ultra-kung-fu-cop are arcade-robots, ninjas, time travel, the Norse god Thor, a dinosaur policeman named Triceracop, a vengeful Adolf Hitler played by one of the guys out of The Lonely Island€ half an hour doesn€™t seem long enough to fit everything in, but the film moves at such a breakneck pace that it succeeds on almost every level it sets out to. With a gruesomely kitsch faux-eighties soundtrack, the involvement of David Hasselhoff in the accompanying music video (and in a voice-only cameo in the film) and some truly epic reviews, this seems certain to be the beginning of something special for Sandberg. If nothing else, he can probably make a career out of making Kung Fury sequels until the day he dies. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZTidn2dBYbY What's your favourite or most anticipated short film of 2015 so far?
