10 Most Messed Up Deaths In Star Wars: Original Trilogy
9. The Rancor Falls In Front Of Their Owner - Star Wars: Episode VI - Return Of The Jedi
When this gigantic monster first growled its way onto the big screen, viewers were made to fear it.
With its long, grotesque hands, mouth full of sharp teeth, and deafening roar, it looked like Luke Skywalker would have a tough job trying to stay alive long enough to save his friends from Jabba the Hutt.
However, shortly after the Jedi managed to not only survive, but kill the frightening Rancor in Episode VI - Return of the Jedi, something unexpected happened.
Luke's actions went from being brave to quite horrendous.
Just after the Rancor's demise, the caretaker of the palace arrived and was immediately hit with a wave of emotion.
His precious Pateesa - that was this 'monster's name - had been brutally murdered by this strange man, with a devastated Malakili unable to do anything but watch as the lifeless animal he'd cared for lay in a heap, crushed under a gate.
If that isn't heartbreaking enough for you, it turns out that Malakili also planned to one day escape with the Rancor, and even became suicidal for a time in the wake of her tragic end. Though he would at least eventually find purpose in his life again as a restaurant owner.
But still, Luke's slaying of this beast just gets more upsetting the more you think about it.
