10 Most Messed Up Deaths In Star Wars: Original Trilogy
7. The Grim End Of Both Tauntauns - Star Wars: Episode V - The Empire Strikes Back
Early on in the middle chapter of the original trilogy, Luke Skywalker and Han Solo are seen riding some mighty Tauntauns across the snow on Hoth.
But within the first five minutes of the movie, the former's steed had already been savagely slaughtered, cut down by a Wampa before Luke could check out the Imperial probe that had just landed on the planet.
It's a startling moment that sets the darker tone of Episode V - The Empire Strikes Back immediately, with Luke sweetly asking his Tauntaun, Riba, if she could smell something one second, and being viciously killed the next.
Oh, and the Tauntaun that was apparently pregnant at the time (!) was then eaten by the snow monster, too. Lovely.
Fast forward to when Solo eventually discovers Luke post-Wampa escape, and yet another Tauntaun suffers a quite grim end. After dying due to the freezing temperatures outside, Solo coldly slices open his animal, Murra, and stuffs Skywalker within it, feeling this was the only way to keep Luke warm.
It did exactly that, sure, but in an unquestionably messed up way.
Making the whole thing even more horrendous, it turns out that Murra was actually Riba's mother, too, meaning she died whilst looking for her own kid in the snow.
