They may not have been the most universally adored addition to the galaxy far, far away back in 1983, but even those who utterly despised the arrival of the Ewoks likely couldn't help but be moved by one rather effed-up teddy bear death.

During the epic Battle of Endor that brought the original trilogy to an end, these brave fur-balls risked their lives to take the fight to the Empire. Many managed to make it to the joyful celebrations that followed the Rebels' victory over the Imperial forces. But some weren't quite so lucky.

The most harrowing example of an Ewok's life being taken in Episode VI - Return of the Jedi occurs midway through that fight amidst the trees as a number of them try to flee from an incoming AT-ST. Unfortunately, one little hero known as Nanta wasn't quite able to evade a blast from its cannons, something their pal Romba soon devastatingly realised.

Choosing to linger on this small moment of heartbreaking loss really hammered home just how brutal and harsh war can truly be, even in a family-friendly galaxy.

Watching a crushed Romba trying to shake his fallen pal awake here will never not be one of the more unexpectedly distressing and impactful moments in all of Star Wars.
