Before he'd eventually watch poor Eightyem be destroyed in front of his very lit-up eyes, C-3PO himself actually experienced a similarly horrible situation in Star Wars: Episode V - The Empire Strikes Back.

Unlike that protocol droid torn apart in Jabba's palace, Threepio would ultimately be brought back to life thanks to some Chewbacca repairs, of course. But that didn't change the fact that his body being scattered around Bespin was still alarming in the moment.

Being the curious soul that he is, Threepio decided to take a closer look when he heard what sounded like an R2-unit in Cloud City. It was here when the droid learned the hard way that Imperial stormtroopers were very much on Bespin, too, with those soldiers blasting him to pieces.

Watching any supporting hero's arms, legs, and head be separated from their body is hugely upsetting regardless of whether they're a human, alien, or machine, and that was certainly the case here.

Also, a distraught Chewbacca having to then fend off Ugnaughts to retrieve his golden pal - who may have been irreparable for all he knew - just made the whole thing even more distressing.
