10 Most Overlooked Films Of This Decade
1. The Lost City Of Z (2016)
If you go into it expecting a zombie movie, The Lost City Of Z will leave you bitterly disappointed, but if a breathtaking cinematic experience that leaves you with a sense of enlightenment is what you seek, this movie is for you.
Director James Gray delivered a slice of classical contemporary cinema that harks back to the vintage exploration epics. Meanwhile, Sons of Anarchy star Charlie Hunnam earned serious leading man cred as the film's complex protagonist, famed British explorer Percy Fawcett.
The story explores how Fawcett's expeditions in search if an ancient, sophisticated civilization in the Amazon put white supremacist ideology under threat during the early 20th Century. His journey is cultural, physical, emotional and spiritual - there's more to it than just the central narrative. The Lost City Of Z builds towards a mysterious and haunting ending, and its final, masterful shot will live long in the memory.
Despite doing all of that, Gray's masterpiece made just $17.1 million off a $30 million budget, and was criminally overlooked at the Oscars.
