10 Most Overlooked Movies From 2014

8. Two Days, One Night

You could be forgiven for missing this minimalist French drama, seeing as it was only released in the art-houses and other independent cinemas during a summer where the glut of blockbusters typically reigned supreme. Two Days, One Night is about a woman who must convince her coworkers to sacrifice their bonuses in order to save her job. For the first twenty minutes or so, the film seems slow and ponderous. Not much happens. But then, the film ropes you in and you become completely engrossed in this woman's struggle and you find yourself emotionally invested in the outcome. It helps that the woman in question is played by the magnificent Marion Cotillard. Her performance is undoubtedly one of the best of the year. Her struggle is real and, because of her performance, it is scarier than most horror films released this year. The ending (we won't spoil it here) is one of the most tense movie moments of 2014. Expect a Hollywood remake in the next five years. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=InuzW58ydyU
