10 Most Overrated '80s Horror Movies

1. Friday The 13th

Although Jason Voorhees has been surprisingly absent from the movie world for over a decade, it hasn't stopped Friday the 13th's mascot from being one of the most iconic slasher villains of all time. Despite never saying a word, this hockey-masked zombie has terrorised cinemagoers for decades.

In hindsight, it's pretty amazing that the Friday the 13th franchise has spawned nearly a dozen follow-ups, considering Jason only appeared for three seconds in the original film. But it's also peculiar how successful the series has been considering the first movie is... y'know... not very good.

Excluding Kevin Bacon's creative kill and one hell of a jump scare at the end, Friday the 13th is pretty dire. The dialogue is forgettable, the characters are dull, and the acting is awful. The big reveal that (spoilers to anyone who hasn't seen the movie or Scream) Jason's mother, Pamela Voorhees is the killer is not a great twist since the character appears five minutes before the movie ends.

If Jason hadn't become as iconic as he has, no one would give the Friday the 13th a second thought.
