Stephen King's Children of the Corn centres around a fanatical cult of kids led by a preacher called Isaac. Despite being a boy, Isaac uses charismatic manipulation to urge the the children in the town of Gatlin to sacrifice all the adults to their god, He Who Walks Behind the Rows. When a couple gets lost and stumble into Gatlin, Isaac's followers kidnap them and prepare them for the ritual killing.

It goes without saying that John Franklin steals the show as Isaac. Even thought the actor was 24 at the time of filming, you totally buy him as as the teenage cult leader. Franklin is so compelling, you believe his character can compel others to kill on his behalf, through simple rhetoric.

Even though Isaac has become an iconic horror villain, it doesn't change the fact that the character is trapped in a terrible movie. The acting is so dull across the board, it feels like the performers are reading their lines. The plot, although intriguing, is formulaic and cliched. Even though the paranormal elements are built up tremendously, the special effects used when the dark god appears look laughably unfinished.
