10 Most Overrated Performances In MCU History (So Far)

8. Dave Bautista – Drax

Dave Bautista has turned in some solid performances since completing the transition from a household name professional wrestler to a household name supporting cast member.

Whether in his portrayal of neo-old-school Bond villain Mr Hinx in Spectre, farming replicant Sapper Morton in Blade Runner: 2048, or the meat-headed Glossu Rabban in Denis Villeneuve's Dune, Bautista has proven that he has the range necessary to inhabit a variety of roles. And while his appearance in 2014's Guardians Of The Galaxy seemed to play true to this idea, his performance as Drax the Destroyer may not be all it's cracked up to be.

A warrior who seeks vengeance for his family's death, Drax begins his journey in the MCU as something of a tragic character, whose inability to comprehend the motivations and meanings of others undercuts the character's seriousness.

Unfortunately, with each subsequent appearance of Drax, the character continues to dumb down, moving from revenge-driven noble warrior to banana-skin comic relief. Granted, he is amusing – in a slapstick, Jar Jar Binks kind of way – but, after four films of this, the same set of tired jokes are wearing thin.

There is not an awful lot to work with script-wise, which is on the writers more than Bautista himself, but his one-note guffawing buffoon could really do with a serious injection of nuance.
