10 Most Paused Lord Of The Rings Moments

7. The Car

The Lord of the Rings takes place in a world where only the most basic form of technology exists. At least, that's what one would presume.

In the first movie, Gandalf entrusts the One Ring to Frodo and commands him and his oldest friend, Samwise, to take the dangerous artefact to Rivendell. As they leave the Shire, Sam points out that this is the furthest he has ever been from home. As Frodo reassures his friend, a small light appears in the top right corner of the screen.

Because there is smoke nearby, any viewer who notices the light will probably presume it's a fire. However, it's a car! In fact, you can see the sun reflecting on its windshield immediately after Frodo says, "Come on, Sam." Although some viewers debated this flub, Peter Jackson confirmed it himself and had the automobile digitally removed from the DVD release. But since we live in the age of the Internet, it wasn't long before the original clip resurfaced.

So why was there a vehicle on the set? Who knows? Maybe Tom Bombadil was trying to give the hobbits a lift.
