10 Most Rewatchable Movies Of The Last 10 Years

2. The Master

Mad max Fury Road Tom Hardy
Annapurna Pictures

So The Master isn’t exactly the most subtle allegorical movie of all time. It focuses on Joaquin Phoenix’s character Freddie involvement with a cult called ‘The Cause’. Phoenix is fantastic in the film, as is Philip Seymour Hoffman as the cult leader Lancaster Dodd, but the true draw is it’s unflinching examination of the psychological tactics and exploitation of weakness that cults in the real world employ and prey upon.

The obvious commentary on Scientology makes the whole thing that much more gripping, as the whole time you watch you are forced to remind yourself that stuff like this actually happens in the real world.

It’s psychological element is as unsettling as it is engaging, and rather than diminishing over time, actually gets more powerful watch after watch. When it comes to drama, The Master is the prime example of a film that only fully reveals its texture and true genius over multiple viewings.
