10 Most Ridiculous Fan Reactions To Avengers: Endgame
5. Celebrating Way Too Early
There’s more to the Avatar drama too. Most regular moviegoers don’t pay attention to the box office, aside from seeing if a film bombs or not.
Occasionally it’s worth a mention when a movie becomes the first movie with an actress whose name begins with M who was born in 1983 to gross over $500 million or some other obscure record, but generally they pass most audiences by.
So when Avengers: Endgame came out of the gates smoking hot, many people were sure it was going to beat Avatar, and then some.
Its legs are significantly shorter than Avatar’s though, and it doesn’t hit some crucial demographics the way Avatar does; the older audiences were wowed by 3D graphics but don’t give a hoot for Valkyrie, Spidey, Black Panther and the Guardians charging through Doctor Strange’s portals.
The fact that many felt the 3D gimmick was precisely why Avatar’s spot at the top was unearned seemed to make this an unnecessarily personal battle for some. Cameron’s ‘superhero fatigue’ comments were taken out of context and have fuelled the flames too.
For all it seemed like Endgame beating Avatar was a dead cert to some, now it seems like it won’t happen at all.
