10 Most Ridiculous Moments In Spider-Man Movies
1. Dancing Emo Peter (Spider-Man 3)
It is the obvious choice, but nothing captures how absolutely ridiculous the Spider-Man movies can get than Dancing Emo Peter. You thought the Raindrops montage was goofy and out of place? Seeing Peter Parker prancing down the street to James Brown before engaging in a jazz dance-off with Gwen Stacy makes that sequence look totally normal by comparison.
Now Raimi's interpretation on the effects of the symbiote on Peter don't totally miss the point; instead of suddenly becoming cool, Peter instead acts like what he thinks cool is. An interesting idea, but it makes Peter unlikable and not for the right reasons. Instead of coming across as angry and power-mad, he feels more petulant and irritating.
You end up wanting him to take off the suit not because it's turning him evil, but because you don't know how much longer you can bare to watch Tobey Maguire with a bad emo fringe gyrating to saxophone music.
The whole sequence is yet another example of tonal whiplash in these movies, and this one in particular whips right back into serious very abruptly. Right after a dance number, Peter accidentally punches Mary Jane in the face and then rushes off to brood in the rain.
If you left for the bathroom at that point and came back, you'd almost swear you were watching a different movie. All in all, as cliche as it is, going with the traditional "black suit turns Peter into an angry jerk" route would have brought up far less problems that trying to make Dancing Emo Peter a thing.
