6. Turkish Rocky (1985)
In this shameless Çetin Inanç remake of the famous ultimate underdog tale (equipped with a classic score, montage and all), a Turkish boxer dies in the ring, in his hometown, Istanbul, and it is up to his good natured son, Serdar to avenge his father's death in a boxing match for blood and honor.
Just like in the Turkish version of Rambo, here too the exceptional athlete Serdar plays the main character. The director was apparently so impressed by Serdar’s physical attributes and acting chops that he casted the guy as the leading man in several of his films. Legend has it, from that point on, Serdar became the Turkish Samuel L Jackson to this Turkish Tarantino.
To be fair, Serdar plays the role of a boxer quite well here. I daresay he seemed to have trained harder than Sly Stallone as the Turkish Rocky, This is most evident in the scene where he jogs around in the hot sun, clothed with nothing but plastic bags!
Too bad, all that hard work and sweat wasn’t enough to spawn a proper acting career for the famous bodybuilder!
