10 Most Satisfying Horror Movie Villain Deaths

9. Jack Torrance - The Shining

Get Out
Warner Bros.

This one is a bit of an oxymoron in the sense that it's satisfying purely because it's completely unsatisfying simultaneously - much like the rest of The Shining as a whole. Also, we'll admit this one is a bit of a cheat because, well, we don't know if Jack Torrance truly dies at the end of The Shining or if he's just sort of absorbed by The Overlook Hotel or something? Or maybe he's on the moon conspiring with Kubrick, 2Pac and Biggie about how to vaccinate flat earthers or something?

There's never anything satisfying about someone's decent into insanity...but only if they were a good person to begin with, and that ain't true of Jack Torrance at all. There are a number of theories surrounding Torrance's behaviour prior to the opening moments of the film - look 'em up - but there's plenty of concrete evidence if you pay attention that he's always been a piece of trash.

Then, throughout the movie, we're treated to Torrance's persistent violent outbursts, including the attempted assault and murder of his wife and child, as well as the gruesome, bloody murder of good natured caretaker/protector Hallorann. So all of this makes it all the more satisfying when he's outsmarted by his own son, Danny, and left to freeze to death inside the grounds' hedge maze.

Johnny sat by the fire, idly swirling his brandy, flicking through the pages of War and Peace, wondering whether it was pretentious to write his bio in the third person.
