Scuba-gear-wearing, baton-wielding vigilante superhero Kick-Ass is fed up of standing idly by whilst crime happens around him and wants to be seen as a symbol for people to help each other out in times of injustice. Although the only real injustice is that turquoise and yellow costume he wears.

The film then introduces us to Chris D'Amico aka Red Mist aka McLovin In Leather. Chris is a weedy, nerdy boy desperately in need of approval from his violent mob boss father Frank. Boss Daddy Frank grows increasingly irate as his criminal activities are thwarted time after time by another vigilante superhero who goes by the name of Big Daddy. So, being the loving yet somewhat sociopathic son that he is, Chris decides to step in and help by using his Bruce Wayne wealth to become the next big super villain.

Red Mist reaches out to Kick-Ass, who has ties with Big Daddy, only to discover that Kick-Ass is as nerdy and clueless as him and no real threat to his father's criminal doings. Despite Red Mist and Kick-Ass bonding and getting along, it was too late to undo the trap and Kick-Ass and Big Daddy endure one of the most savage beatings in superhero history by Frank's henchmen.
