2. Dragons - Reign of Fire (2002)
A film about England under a plague of dragons. No, it is not King Arthur or Saint George but the contemporary setting of, Rob Bowmans 2002 film, Reign of Fire. The post apocalyptic story concerns the entirety of the world plunged into darkness thanks to a young Christian Bale and a bunch of lazy construction worker who free dragons from the London underground. A young Quinn Abercromby (Ben Thornton and as an adult Christian Bale) accompanies his mother, (Alice Krige) the crew chief on a project of construction on the London underground. After penetrating an underground cave, Quinn is convinced to search the structure by the workmen only to come across a dragon, woken from its hibernation. As he tries to make his escape, accompanying his mother, they jump in the lift to the surface and Quinn tells his mother of the creature that was below. The rest of the construction workers are killed in a wall of fire and some shoddy CGI, whilst Quinn and his mum ascend. As the lift ascends Quinn is scared by the fire filling the cavern below but luckily they are out of its reach. What comes after though, shapes the proceedings of Quinns life. The lift in which they are travelling is attack by the same dragon, it crushes Quinns mother whilst she is protecting her son, leaving the young boy trapped with the body of his mother.
