Although this was an obvious climax to the film as it had been the protagonists plan, the extent of the destruction of Parliament, accompanied by the 1812 Overtune, is staggering. V (Hugo Weaving), the mysterious hero of the film, has continued his battle against the tyrannic dictatorship of Norsefire which rules over Britain. V urges the end of the oppressive government and that the people of Britain shouuld stand up and be counted.

The scene in question comes about at the end of the film; as November the 5th approaches, our Guy Fawkes masked protagonist has rigged a tube train to explode beneath the British Parliament. He leaves Evey to decide the fate of the train, stating that he is unfit to decide. V then embarks on what he knows will be his final fight, a confrontation with High Chancellor Adam Sutler and the head of the secret police, Peter Creely. Creely executes Sutler before leading an assault on V that mortally wounds our hero, yet the villains are still defeated.

V returns to Evey and just before dying he expresses his love for her, persuading her that she should carry out the final act of V€™s plot to overcoe the facist regime and free the British people from tyranny. Evey places his body onboard of the train, covered in roses and rigged with the explosives. Before she can send the train on its journey she is confronted by Detective Finch, who throughout the film has learnt of Norsefire€™s corruption. After a short conversation Finch stands down and allows the revolution to occur. Evey sends the train to its fate; the large scale and spectacular destruction of Parliament, freeing Britain from the dictatorship of the Norsefire regime.
