10 Most Shocking Snubs In The 2022 Oscar Nominations

8. Robert Yeoman - Best Cinematography

House Of Gucci
Fox

Robert Yeoman has been working in film since the mid-80s, but formed his most fruitful partnership in 1996 when he worked as Director of Photography on Bottle Rocket - the feature debut of one Wes Anderson.

Since then, Yeoman has been the cinematographer for every single one of Anderson's picturesque films, helping bring his vision of a world populated entirely by pastels and the Wilson brothers to life. His work went largely unnoticed by major awards until 2014 when his work on The Grand Budapest Hotel earned both a BAFTA and Oscar nomination.

Sadly, Yeoman received no such honour for the gorgeously-captured, The French Dispatch, which hit marked Anderson's return to live action film making after a seven-year absence. With all the hallmarks of an Anderson classic and with his profile raised thanks to Budapest, you'd think Yeoman's name might come up again.

Alas, this was not the case and The French Dispatch will not be represented at all at this year's awards. Maybe it didn't live up to the Academy's high standards. Maybe the Academy don't like France all that much. Or maybe this movie was just released in October. We'll never know.
