10 Most Shocking Snubs In The 2022 Oscar Nominations
5. Aaron Sorkin - Best Original Screenplay
The Oscars love Aaron Sorkin. Ever since he blew them away with his "Best Adapted Screenplay"-winning script for The Social Network, the creator of The West Wing has been nominated thrice more for his work on Moneyball, Molly's Game, and The Trial of the Chicago 7. The latter was Sorkin's first "Best Original Screenplay" nomination; a feat he would try and fail to replicate in 2022 with Being The Ricardos.
This tale of two co-stars on I Love Lucy has been getting quite the buzz and both its leads - Nicole Kidman and Javier Bardem - are poised to challenge for the two leading actor statues. Sorkin is sitting on a fair few nominations himself for the screenplay, including one from the Writers Guild of America. Unfortunately, whilst they may love Lucy, the Academy certainly didn't love Sorkin this year.
Every single "Original Screenplay" nominee comes from a film in the running for some kind of "Best Feature" award, so it's perhaps not surprising that Sorkin's attempt failed. However, considering his track record at the Oscars, Sorkin's snub will no doubt inspire a lot of "walking and talking" as to why he didn't get recognised.
