2. ‘He Was Their Friend!’ - The Prisoner Of Azkaban

It’s not easy to criticise The Prisoner of Azkaban. With director Alfonso Cuarón at the helm, Harry’s third on-screen adventure is (almost) perfect from start to finish.

With the help of the Marauder’s Map, Harry sneaks into Hogsmeade without permission. Then, whilst under the Invisibility Cloak, he overhears a conversation and learns that Sirius Black betrayed his parents.

The problem with Harry’s reaction to this information is that it’s completely out of character. He’s meant to be the bravest wizard in the franchise, and what does he do? He cries on a rock for a few minutes before erupting into a furious tirade. Harry even tells Hermione he intends to kill Sirius Black if he gets the opportunity.

Daniel Radcliffe’s performance doesn't help, but the concept is the main issue. Harry’s reaction is totally misjudged. Shock – rather than unbridled emotion – should have been the priority when writing this scene.

Love to read and write. Have an unhealthy obsession with Harry Potter. Enjoy running up hills.
