10 Most Stupid Characters In Classic Horror Movies

2. The Thing - Clark

Tucker And Dale Vs Evil
Universal Pictures

John Carpenter's remake of The Thing is widely considered to be better than the original. In the movie, a crew stationed at U.S. Outpost 31 in Antarctica find themselves the unwitting host of a shapeshifting alien desperate to escape.

The whole thing kicks off when the crew spots a Norwegian helicopter chasing an Alaskan Malamute across the frozen landscape. The men are clearly trying to kill the dog, so the station commander, Gary, assumes they're hostile. He shoots and kills the passenger, which causes the pilot to accidentally drop a grenade, resulting in his death.

The dog survives, but instead of questioning what happened and why the Norwegian team was trying so hard to kill a dog, Clark (the station's dog handler) takes the pup in and began caring for it. Clark ends up becoming a primary suspect for having been assimilated by the Thing because he spent the most time with it.

As tensions run high in the camp, everything unravels, and the men are killed, one by one. In a final confrontation, Clark is shot and killed by MacReady, making him the only person not killed by the alien. When the test proves Clark wasn't infected, McReady is denounced as a murderer.

Ultimately, Clark's stupidity manifested in taking care of the dog. At no point did he assume something was wrong with it, which pushed the Norwegians to try and kill it — a decision that proved fatal for pretty much everyone.
