10 Most Terrifying Christmas Horror Movies

7. Better Watch Out (2016)

Originally titled Safe Neighbourhood when it hit the festival circuit in 2016, Better Watch Out has fast become a twisted modern Christmas favourite. But it’s not one you’d want to watch with your whole family.

Directed and co-written by Chris Peckover, this feature stars Levi Miller as highly intelligent but deviously manipulative 12-year-old Luke who, alongside his best friend Garrett (Ed Oxenbould), forges a plan to seduce his babysitter (Olivia DeJonje) before she moves away.

However, Luke’s plans soon hit a snag and it’s not long before all-out chaos breaks loose upon the idyllic suburban home.

As unflinchingly violent as it is devilishly funny, Better Watch Out is one of those films where it’s better not knowing much about it before you watch. After it’s initial set-up, a swift rug pull moment switches gears at which point events only become more insane – and it’s all the better because of it.

Demonstrating the superb acting talent of its vibrant young cast, this film is best described as Home Alone meets home invasion horror. It knows exactly what it is and how to make the of its low budget. And it’s bound to make your Christmas a little bit brighter as a result.
