10 Most Terrifying Horror Movie Swimming Pool Scenes
7. The Pool
The premise of 2018's The Pool is so very simple, yet to very engaging.
Here, we have a couple trapped in a drained swimming pool with a gnarly, protective crocodile who is waiting for its eggs to hatch.
Despite some mildly ropey CGI for its croc, The Pool manages to be a hugely enjoyable and tense affair that keeps you on the edge of your seat across its brisk 90-minute run time. And grabbing you in a major way from the get-go, there's an opening scene that immediately sets the table for what lies ahead.
In that opening, we find Theeradej Wongpuapan's Day waking up to realise he's at the bottom of an empty swimming pool. As Day and the audience try to make sense of this situation, there's a sudden attack on our central character by a pissed off crocodile.
From there, we flashback six days to see how Day got himself - and later his girlfriend - into this predicament, as the story unravels in this fight for survival.
The Pool is far from flawless, but it's a movie well worth hunting down for this those with a penchant for minimalist creature features - especially now that the film can be found housed on the Shudder streaming service.
