10 Most Underrated 1990s Sci-Fi Movies

Almost all of Arnold Schwarzenegger's one-man army action sci-fi flicks from the '80s were instant classics, but the same can't necessarily be said about his '90s offerings. Though they were all still successful films in their own right, few of them received the fanfare that the ones from the previous decade did. And one that almost always gets overlooked is 1996's Eraser.

More action than sci-fi, it does lean into the latter on occasion, relying on some of its greatest inventions such as futuristic advanced weaponry that can literally erase someone in seconds, and in the process, it sets up a great marriage of both genres. And that erasing weaponry meets its match when professional Eraser John Kruger is called in to protect the woman in danger of being its next target.

A film that certainly hits some of the recognisable beats of Arnie's greats, the thing that sets Eraser apart from other action movies is the fact that it actually boasts a surprisingly clever plot. No, it isn't perfect, but it is gripping and provides The Austrian Oak with a chance to deliver one of his best cinematic performances (he and Vanessa Williams are particularly great here).

Aside from that, however, it's a highly enjoyable action movie full of impressive set pieces and killer one-liners, and quite frankly, it deserves more mentions in conversations about Arnie's best.
