10 Most Underrated Disaster Movies Of All Time

7. Seeking A Friend For The End Of The World

The Day After Tomorrow 2004

Without question one of the lighter films on this list, 2012's Seeking a Friend for the End of the World is a romantic comedy-drama detailing the last month on Earth before it is destroyed by an incoming asteroid.

Steve Carell stars as Dodge, whose wife has just left him. Realising he will now die alone, Dodge goes on an epic road trip with his neighbour (Kiera Knightley) to find the true love of his life before everyone dies. What follows is an enlightening journey in which Dodge and Penny form a close bond and attempt to help each other come to terms with their lives.

It’s a bittersweet and charming film and one which Carell and Knightley perform very well, and though the end of the story is solidified from the very beginning you can’t help but watch and hope something good will happen; a final, happily ever after twist. However, director Lorene Scafaria opts to keep the ending the film has promised, and thanks to the emotional journey of the protagonists it feels more heart-warming than just plain bleak.
