6. Sirius Says Goodbye – The Prisoner Of Azkaban
The finale of The Prisoner of Azkaban is fantastic. Using the Time-Turner, Harry and Hermione go back in time to save Sirius and Buckbeak. It’s an exhilarating sequence of events that stands out in a film full of highlights. Just before Sirius flies away to freedom, he has one last conversation with his godson.
Gary Oldman’s performance is brilliant here. His delivery really pulls on the heartstrings as he talks to Harry about his parents and how they live on through the hearts of the living. It’s a powerful piece of dialogue that could easily fall flat in the hands of the wrong actor. Daniel Radcliffe also excels during this scene, gazing into the eyes of his godfather with a child-like wonder that’s a perfect balance of happiness and emotion.
In fact, this scene actually improves upon J.K. Rowling’s version. In the book, Sirius takes off and leaves almost instantly. But this extra conversation makes the ending of Harry’s third adventure even better than the original.
