10 Most Underrated Harry Potter Movie Scenes
4. Amos Diggory Mourns His Son – The Goblet Of Fire
There are many unforgettable death scenes in Harry Potter. Sirius Black, Albus Dumbledore, and Dobby all have memorable deaths, and the Battle of Hogwarts also features plenty of tragic losses. But these well-known scenes often overshadow the first major death of the franchise: Cedric Diggory.
At the end of the Third Task, Harry and Cedric are transported to the graveyard in Little Hangleton. Wormtail hits Cedric with Avada Kedavra, killing him instantly. Harry – after witnessing Voldemort’s terrifying return – escapes with Cedric’s body and arrives back at Hogwarts.
The reaction of Cedric’s father is difficult to watch due to Jeff Rawle’s heart-wrenching performance. He captures the pain of a bereft parent by clutching his son’s body and howling with anguish. It’s a relatively short scene, but it never fails to make an impact.
Indeed, this scene is even better than Rowling’s original version. In the book, Harry is taken away by Professor Moody before Amos can get to his son’s body. But the movie presents us with a much more traumatic and memorable scene.
