10 Most Underrated Horror Movies Of 2019

2. Ready Or Not

Ready or Not
Fox Searchlight Pictures

It should be no surprise that two of the guys responsible for some of the best segments in horror anthology films like V/H/S and Southbound would eventually go on to make excellent feature films, but Ready or Not was still a huge breath of fresh air that seemingly came out of nowhere earlier this year.

There are shades of You're Next, Get Out and Hostel in the plot - a darkly comic horror about a newlywed bride who's hunted down by her partner's family on her wedding night as sport - but Ready or Not brings enough new to the table via a strong satirical edge - that it then coats that with plenty of blood and gore.

It's Samantha Weaving - who stars as the unlucky bride - who's the real highlight though, and single-handedly drags the idea of the 'final girl' kicking and screaming into a contemporary horror landscape.

In fact, between this, Mayhem, Ash Vs. The Evil Dead and The Babysitter, Weaving is quickly marking herself out as one of horror's biggest rising stars, and for damn good reason.
