9. Bruce Banner's Inconvenient Heart Rate - The Incredible Hulk
There’s not a whole load of memorable moments in The Incredible Hulk, and it feels like the main thing fans take away from it is Ed Norton’s falling out with Marvel. It still has some fun set-pieces though, and William Hurt was born to play Thunderbolt Ross.
Norton had a hand in writing the film’s script, and apparently a big bone of contention was Marvel’s willingness to dump character scenes in favour of more action, which can be felt in the movie. One of the few human moments that stands out though is when Bruce and Betty are alone together in the hotel, and after years of no contact and longing things get steamy fast.
Bruce has to quickly calm himself down when his heart rate beeper goes off, and he realises his excitement will make him Hulk out at the worst possible moment. His dejected look and Betty’s reassurance manages to be funny and sweet at the same time, and helps the viewer realise The Hulk has ruined his life in more ways than one.
