There is a scene in Grimsby (or The Brothers Grimsby, as it is known in some territories) in which Sasha Baron Cohen's Nobby, a football hooligan from the English town of the title, and his estranged brother, an MI5 agent played by Mark Strong, hide inside an elephant's vagina to evade bad guys, only to find their host subjected to an orgy. Cue the giant elephant penises (and the associated, uh, "liquids").

It shouldn't be funny, but it's so ridiculous that you can't help but laugh. As such - and taken as an exercise in juvenile, gross-out humour - Grimsby will work wonders for its target audience (i.e. people who like juvenile, gross-out humour).

It was a flop, of course, derided by most as the beginning of the end for Sasha Baron Cohen. And whilst it's true that there are questionable inclusions (a joke in which Daniel Radcliffe contracts AIDS seems particularly ill-judged and nasty) and doesn't seem to know whether it has an affection for the people it sets out to lampoon, it still retains an almost admirable energy.

It might not be "good" in the traditional sense, but that doesn't mean it isn't funny from start to finish - even if Nobby feels like Baron Cohen's least rounded character to date. You might find that, in the end, it's a film you desperately want to hate but somehow end up kind of enjoying.
