10 Most Underrated Movies Of 2017 (So Far)

9. The Boss Baby

Transformers 5 Last Knight
Dreamworks

Rotten Tomatoes Score: 52%

At a glance, The Boss Baby looks like one of those films you instinctively sigh at every time you remember it's a legitimate motion picture. You know, like The Emoji Movie or The Angry Birds Movie. Unlike the The Emoji Movie, though, but kind of like The Angry Birds Movie, The Boss Baby isn't the disaster we all assumed.

After all, there's a sense that, due to the nature of the film (a baby who is a boss, what are you gonna do?) the critics were a little harsh on what was an otherwise enjoyable animated romp. C'mon, credit where credit's due: this is a fun, amusing, and excellently-voiced film that the entire family can enjoy. Formulaic, sure, but it also has a lot of heart, and the animation itself is never anything but impressive.

Somewhere along the line, we have come to expect Pixar-level Godliness from all animated movies as if it were a requirement. When something merely entertaining comes along, like The Boss Baby, the critics denounce it - not to mention that the movie actually has a lot of interesting things to say about sibling rivalries.

In this day and age, where bloated and excessive movies are ten-fold, can't we just enjoy a 90 minute throwback featuring a baby with the voice of Alec Baldwin?
