10 Most Underrated Movies Of The 2010s

8. Edge Of Tomorrow

Edge Of Tomorrow
Warner Bros.

When the trailers for this film first came out, no one could shut up about how much it looked like a video game. The trait was used to deride the film and its visuals, with people immediately labeling it as a mindless action film, in the vein of Michael Bay.

How wrong they were.

Starring Tom Cruise, it tells the story of a not-too-distant future in which an alien race has invaded the world. Humanity attempts to fight back but continuously loses to them because the aliens seem to be able to anticipate their every move. That is until Cruise accidentally messes the whole system up and inherits their powers of precognition.

Edge of Tomorrow is a taut, clever sci-fi thriller that plays a lot like someone mashing the worlds of Groundhog's Day and Terminator together. The results are delightfully bonkers and unexpected. The film is consistently multiple steps ahead of its audience and able to use its concept to garner laughs and shocking poignancy.

With great action and a scene-stealing performance by Emily Blunt, this should have been a massive blockbuster hit. Alas, critics and cinephiles loved it and general audiences just weren't there.
