10 Most Underrated Movies Of The 2010s
7. A Ghost Story
The film that every dudebro you know told you to never go see.
David Lowery's film is not what you would expect from the title or even from the poster. It isn't a horror film or even really a supernatural thriller but rather an exploration of deeper concepts relating to death, such as love, grief, and passage of time. It is an intimately affecting film that puts emphasis on the smaller moments rather than the big ones.
For instance, we don't see the car crash that kills Casey Affleck's character and makes him a ghost but we do see a five-minute long, unbroken take of Rooney Mara sad-eating an entire pie.
So as you can imagine, it wasn't exactly everyone's cup of tea. Entire audiences went in expecting a jump-scare-heavy horror movie and instead got this somber meditation. It's certainly a strange movie but it's unique, original, and captivating in ways you wouldn't expect.
Also, Rooney Mara delivers a heartbreaking performance (pie eating and all) in sequences where she has nothing to act with other than a guy wearing a sheet.
