10 Most Underrated Movies Of The 2010s

5. Blade Runner 2049

Edge Of Tomorrow
Warner Bros.

The largest-budgeted R-rated film ever made, a sequel to cult property, starring Ryan Gosling and Harrison Ford, and a directed by Dennis Villeneuve. Somehow, it was destined to fail.

General audiences didn't really know what to make of the film, just as they never knew what to make of the original. The first film was released to an all-around poor reception, only being viewed as a classic in the decades to come thanks to Scott's insistence on releasing alternative cuts of the film. While these cuts were welcome additions that improved the film, it only served to confuse general audiences even more as to which one they should be watching if preparing for the sequel.

Thus, despite all of its critical acclaim, 2049 was never able to become the kind of box office success it needed to be to justify such a venture. Which is a shame, because the film was genuinely great. From the score, to Roger Deakins' cinematography, to the countless great performances, especially Harrison Ford's incredible return.

Now we'll have to wait another thirty-five years to get a third film, which will also inevitably flop. Thanks guys.
