10 Most Underrated Original Songs In Movie History

6. "Save Me" By Aimee Mann (Magnolia)

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bNbTC6xLVg0 In the first season of Portlandia, Armison and Brownstein play on the fact that "Save Me" has become Aimee Mann's most recognizable song, and maybe most requested live. She really did hit a homerun as far as a song that doubles as a solid single and a necessary part of the film. "Save Me" works as a simple relationship song, but is even more powerful in the close of "Magnolia" as a unifier for the desire of human connection, something that drives the weaving plot lines of the film. "Magnolia" pushes the audience to think about coincidence and its role in the way life plays out. "Save Me" calls for a deliberate action amongst the aimlessness of human relationships. The song works well as a capstone to the film's soundtrack, recorded by both Mann and Jon Brion.
