10 Most Underrated Slasher Movie Villains
3. Edward Lionheart - Theatre Of Blood
Vincent Price does Shakespeare... but is also a slasher villain, in 1973's comedy-horror A Theatre of Blood. Vincent Price plays actor Douglas Hicox, who vents his rage against the critics who panned him and his performances by brutally slaughtering them.
The horror icon is great fun as Hicox, offing his victims in a series of delightfully camp - and increasingly elaborate - set pieces.
Crucially, Price doesn't take himself too seriously in the lead role, dressing up in a series of silly outfits and daft guises - including a mustachioed chef and disco-permed hairdresser.
It's hard to imagine anyone else in the role, nor another actor having quite so much fun with it as Price does here (although Jim Broadbent gave it a fair go, in 2005's stage adaptation of the movie). Douglas Hicox is the perfect mash-up of character and actor, and one of the funniest, most creative slasher movies ever made.
