6. Captain America v Batroc The Leaper - Captain America: The Winter Soldier

Captain America: The Winter Soldier ended up as more of a heist thriller than your average superhero movie, which definitely worked in its favour. The movie’s opening scene set this alternative direction in motion exquisitely.

Not only did it entertain, but also it showed off Captain America’s character progression since we’d last seen him in Avengers Assemble. Far from being the man out of time, this Rogers was clearly new and improved, with his SHIELD training certainly cleaning up his technique.

The thunks and dings that accompanied his less-than-subtle blows in The First Avenger made way for dulled thumps as he almost silently made his way around the kidnapped? Warship. When his newfound espionage tactics had done their work, we also got to see him up against his comics foe Batroc the Leaper - a supervillain known for his intense acrobatic skill and penchant for the French kickboxing-esque sport “savante.”

It was lovely to see the introduction of this longtime nemesis of Captain America, but very cleverly updated and adapted to suit the less cartoonish vibe of The Winter Soldier.
