10 Most Unlikely Duos In Horror Movies
1. Hannibal & Clarice - The Silence Of The Lambs (1991)
Though The Silence Of The Lambs was not the first big screen adaptation of Thomas Harris' psychological horror novels, it is by far the most famous -- and with good reason.
Defined by two outstanding performances from Anthony Hopkins and Jodie Foster, the film presents the scariest, and definitive, portrayal of super-intelligent cannibalistic serial killer Hannibal Lecter. FBI agent Clarice Starling (Foster) must enlist Lecter's (Hopkins) help in order to catch Ted Levine's lady-skinning serial killer Buffalo Bill. The enemy of my enemy is my friend, or something like that...
It is easy to forget that Lecter isn't the primary antagonist in Lambs, given how eerily memorable Hopkins' performance is, but more than this it is easy to forget that he and Clarice take Bill on together. The serial killer and the federal agent make an iconic duo, the polarity of their differences defining what becomes a complex relationship.
He is intensely cerebral, belying his savage instincts, to the point where even Clarice -- who well and truly knows better -- lets her guard down. She, on the other hand, is a skilled yet naive junior agent, trying her best to navigate a deeply male-dominated profession. Unfortunately, their temporary allegiance -- and his eventual escape from custody -- spells the end of her career, but it's fun while it lasts.
