9. Selene & Michael - Underworld (2003)
Underworld often gets forgotten amidst the Blades and Twilights of this world, and yet the leather-and-guns action horror vampire series laid down some seriously cool sequences across five films spanning 13 years.
At the centre of them is Kate Beckinsale's Selene, an ice-cold vampire Death Dealer whose mission is to hunt Lycans -- a race of werewolf that can metamorphose between human and wolf forms at will -- upholding the centuries-long war between the species. Alas not all goes to plan in the 2003 original and Selene finds her path crossing with human medical student Michael (Scott Speedman).
Michael is just your average, run-of-the-mill, day-walking kinda guy who is being hunted by Lycans, and gets bit by a Lycan, and then gets bitten by a vampire, becoming the first of a new breed of Lycan-vampire hybrids and fulfilling his destiny as the direct descendant of vampires and Lycans' common ancestor... And Selene finds herself irresistibly attracted to him, to the point she is willing to turn against her coven, and the pair strike out on their own together. Quite the arse-kicking double act they make.
Not your average week at the university hospital, that's for sure.
