10 Most Unlikely Duos In Horror Movies

7. Goreng & Baharat - The Platform (2019)

Death Becomes Her
Netflix

Spanish science-fiction horror The Platform (2019) is truly one of the hidden gems of Netflix, sporting a constrained indie setup, a cast of relative unknowns and an under-the-radar directing talent in Galder Gaztelu-Urrutia.

A dark send-up of social class structure, the film takes place within a series of bare rooms, spread over hundreds of levels, through which a platform of food descends every day for the occupants of the floors to fight over and gorge themselves on. But the floor's occupants are randomly mixed every month, putting a sinister twist on philosopher John Rawls' veil of ignorance thought experiment, which suggests individuals ought to act morally in ordering their society as they don't know which member of it they are going to become.

The film finds an improbable hero in Goreng (Iván Massagué), a sensitive man seeking a diploma and armed with a copy of Don Quixote. He attempts to bond and partner with a variety of individuals through the film, hoping to descend to the lower levels and ride back up to send a message to the administration, but the only one that sticks is Baharat (Emilio Buale). Arriving on the comparatively luxurious level six together, Baharat should wish for anything but to join Goreng's quest. And yet, he does, defending the food on the descent and suffering for his efforts.
