10 Most Unnecessarily Hated Characters In Film History
6. Norman Bates - Psycho
We're kicking off with one of film's greatest villains, the mass murdering Norman Bates. While there is no way to justify the killings of the confused thief Marion Crane or P.I. Milton Arbogast at his hands, it is fair to say that the hotel owner is a guy with severe psychiatric issues.
How this guy was left to his own devices, let alone to run a motel, is quite puzzling. While his rather awkward demeanour would obviously have made it quite hard for him to make friends, you would think there would be some family members around to help him out.
His Mother's death clearly came as a mighty shock for him to act in such a brutal manner, although one would have to suspect that the relationship may have been a cause of his problems. The Norman Bates persona wasn't responsible for any of the deaths, and for his Mother persona to commit such hideous crimes definitely infers that she was perhaps not the nicest person.
If Mother had actually taken her mentally ill son to get the help he required while she was alive, then there is a chance that none of the deaths would have occurred. Instead Mister Bates could have been left to maintain the solid levels of his three star motel.
