4. Meryl Streep

Meryl Streep did an excellent job playing Margaret Thatcher in the 2011 biopic The Iron Lady, but so many of her other roles were a far cry from this on screen impersonation of the former British Prime Minister. Streep has played the childish Madeline Ashton who gained eternal youth in Death Becomes Her, a sensitive performance as determined realist Joanna Kramer in Kramer Vs Kramer, the ice-cold and feared editor-in-chief Miranda Priestly in The Devil Wears Prada, adventurous rafting expert Gail in The River Wild, carefree villa owner Donna Carmichael in Mama Mia! and Linda in The Deer Hunter (a role for which she wrote her own lines). A truly magnificent acting range from a great actress.
