3. Tom Hanks
Tom Hanks has been in a huge number of films over the years and the difference between the characters he has played is enormous. From playing Josh Baskin, the child in an adult's body, in his major breakthrough movie Big, the homosexual AIDS sufferer Andrew Beckett in the award-winning Philadelphia, the physically and mentally challenged Forrest Gump in the eponymous movie, the battle-hardened but understanding Captain John H. Miller in Saving Private Ryan, to the stranded Chuck Noland (a role for which Hanks had to both lose and gain weight for different parts of the movie) in Cast Away, Hanks is a truly versatile actor.
