Aquaman was silly and overblown, but it wisely embraced these elements in a charming and almost self-aware manner. Its visuals both matched its tonal quirks and played a key role in realizing Atlantis’ underwater splendor and its inhabitants’ varied appearances.

After a brief confrontation, the hero is able to convince the beast that he is worthy of the ancient weapon.
