10 Most Visually Arresting Moments In The DCEU

9. The One True King - Aquaman

Harley Quinn Birds of Prey
Warner Bros.

Aquaman was silly and overblown, but it wisely embraced these elements in a charming and almost self-aware manner. Its visuals both matched its tonal quirks and played a key role in realizing Atlantis’ underwater splendor and its inhabitants’ varied appearances.

For all the talk of visual excess, one of the film’s most impressive shots is comparatively restrained but still important to the story as well as Arthur’s arc. Just before the film's climax, Arthur encounters the Karathen, a massive sea creature charged with guarding Atlan's trident

After a brief confrontation, the hero is able to convince the beast that he is worthy of the ancient weapon. This leads to his marine telepathy abilities being heightened as well as him being bestowed upon his ancestor’s trident and armour. Not long after, he steps out of an underground waterfall as Mera and his mother watch on in awe.

The scene is a bit over-the-top, but fits well with the movie’s tone and cements Aquaman as the rightful heir to the Atlantean throne.
