10 Most Wanted Movie Sequels That Would Never Work

4. Ferris Bueller's Day Off 2

Ferris Bueller's Day Off remains one of the most beloved comedies of the '80s, and encouraged young people to skip school for a day in favor of adventure. A mysterious teaser trailer appeared in early 2012 featuring an aged Matthew Broderick throwing his curtains open and claiming, "How can I handle work on a day like today?" that sent the internet reeling with speculation that a sequel was in the works. As it turns out, the ad was nothing more than an ad for an ad, played during the Superbowl, that saw Broderick ditching a day of work in order to drive around in his Honda CRV. That right there should have been enough to kill any excitement about a sequel, but alas, here we are.

Director John Hughes tossed the idea of a sequel around with Broderick for a while, but the two ultimately decided against it.

"We thought about a sequel to Ferris Bueller, where he'd be in college or at his first job, and the same kind of things would happen again. But neither of us found a very exciting hook to that," said Broderick. "The movie is about a singular time in your life. Ferris Bueller is about the week before you leave school, it's about the end of school - in some way, it doesn't have a sequel. It's a little moment and it's a lightning flash in your life. I mean, you could try to repeat it in college or something but it's a time that you don't keep. So that's partly why I think we couldn't think of another."

Good! As I said earlier, comedy sequels hardly ever work, and as Broderick pointed out, Ferris Bueller's Day Off absolutely wouldn't succeed, and would only harm the original; because the film is about such a singular moment in a person's life. To try to recapture that, with Ferris as an adult, would just fail miserably.
